‘I REARRANGE WORDS EVERY DAY, TO SAY NEW THINGS.’

After his experiences in theatre and television as an actor and scriptwriter, he took on the role of creative director at ACBD Studio, where he works as a copywriter and strategist. In 2016 and 2017, he was responsible, alongside Ana Cunha, for the rebranding of all RTP channels, including the curation of guest artists for half-yearly cycles to feature in the public television station’s programme guides.
Through poetic intervention work on the streets in recent years, notably the eight poems displayed at the opening of Pink Street in Cais do Sodré, Lisbon, in partnership with the legendary graphic designer Ricardo Mealha, with whom she has also collaborated on other projects such as the ‘Portugal-Brazil Year’. More recently, the ‘Post-it Poetry’ project, involving the display of A1-sized Post-it notes featuring handwritten poetry on the streets of Lisbon. This project gave rise to a book, due to be published in 2019, entitled ‘Pocket Universe’.
The project, ‘300 Haikus’, began this year and will result in a forthcoming book of daily haikus spanning 300 days. Meanwhile, this creative residency on the island of São Vicente, resulting in a book – a numbered edition printed at a local print shop – containing 20 haikus in Portuguese and Creole, in a bilingual edition. This has also led to the creation of 40 large-format, handwritten Post-it posters, also in Creole and Portuguese, which will be displayed across the island of São Vicente. This will also give rise to a documentary by Gonçalo Pôla, a guest Portuguese director with whom we have collaborated on several projects, who will document the entire process, from the printing of the book to the display of the posters across the island, in a film that we hope to be able to present next year.
He decided to call this very special series of haikus in Portuguese and Creole ‘haikréus’.
